Britains Traffic Signing System Reviewed

3rd November 2011
In an attempt to reduce costs for councils the Transport Minister announced what it seems to be the biggest review into Britain's traffic signing system for 40 years
Traffic signs are a must to ensure road safety but at times, especially in city centers, they can become quite confusing and looking like a jungle.
The review started in September 2008 with the aim of simplifying the signing system and adapt it to the way we travel now.
It also aims at reducing the red tape that councils are facing when they need to put in place frequently used signs without asking for government permission.
The changes that we might see implemented from November 2011 are:
Reduce regulations and provide flexibility for local authorities.
Reduce traffic signing on the road network.
Encouraging local authorities to place traffic signs only where they are needed.
